OPM Wins Award for Its e-Gov Initiatives

Washington, D.C. - The e-Training Initiative and Gov Online Learning Center were selected by the Federal Executive Leadership Council for the Showcase of Excellence Award for 2003. The award was presented to the U.S. Office of Personnel Management by the Office of Management and Budget’s Mark Forman, Associate Director of Information Technology and E-Government, on behalf of the Quad Councils at the FOSE luncheon. There were over 40 initiatives nominated and only two received this top recognition.

“I am very proud of OPM and all of the hard work it has put into making the federal government a much easier place to navigate,” said OPM Director Kay Coles James. “It is also fulfilling the President’s promise to create a government that is citizen-centered, results-oriented and market-based.”

Four of the President’s e-Gov initiatives were nominated for the Showcase of Excellence Award, which honors programs that best exemplify the government’s efforts to improve the delivery of services to citizens at FOSE 2003, the largest information technology exposition serving the government marketplace. The initiatives were Free File, Regulations.gov, GoLearn.gov, and GovBenefits. “Dealing with the government used to require an advanced degree in patience,” said Forman. “The President’s e-Gov Initiatives took the operations of the government and put them on the internet in a way that’s easy to use, is open 24 hours, and won’t put you on hold. The four initiatives honored today show what’s possible when the government puts the needs of citizens first.”
