OPM Director James Seeks out Nation's Best and Brightest at San Antonio Recruitment Fair

Washington, D.C. - The Working for America recruitment fair, continued its eleven city tour with a stop in San Antonio, Texas where over 4,000 candidates inquired and applied for Federal positions. The U.S. Office of Personnel Management (OPM) co-sponsored this fair with the Alamo Workforce Development Center, providing an opportunity for 25 federal agencies to showcase current vacancies available locally and nationwide for qualified candidates.

Following the launch of the new and updated USAJOBS website, the one-stop website for federal job seekers, OPM Director Kay Coles James created the Working for America recruitment fairs as another innovative tool to make federal employment opportunities more accessible to job seekers.

"We are crisscrossing the nation to find the best and the brightest for the civil service," James said. "Through the www.usajobs.gov website and now the successful recruitment fairs, there are fewer boundaries between vacancies and the eager and qualified job seeker. Opportunities are one click away through the USAJOBS website or one step away from your home or community where you can have face to face interaction with human resource professionals at the recruitment fairs. Whatever tools the job seeker chooses they will find federal employment opportunities are more accessible than ever."

The fair also featured live workshops on interviewing, resume writing and a hands on presentation at the computerized www.usajobs.gov booth where users were able to access thousands of positions through the internet.

"The recruitment fairs continue to exceed expectations nationwide," James added. "Americans are looking for career opportunities that will enable them to serve their country, and we are actively committed to providing those opportunities."

OPM is encouraging participating agencies to utilize the unique hiring opportunities these fairs present in connecting with a large, qualified, and diverse applicant population. Each agency that participates in a fair has been asked to track offers and new hires that come as a result of the fairs.

Other recruitment fairs are scheduled to take place in Tucson, Arizona; Denver, Colorado; Las Cruces, New Mexico-El Paso Texas; Albuquerque, New Mexico; Detroit, Michigan; Miami, Florida; San Diego, California; and New York, New York.
