OPM Director Supports Federal Workforce Performance Appraisal and Management Improvement Act

Washington, D.C. - U.S. Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Director Linda M. Springer today voiced support for the Federal Workforce Performance Appraisal and Management Improvement Act introduced in the United States Senate today by Senator George V. Voinovich (R-Ohio).

"I applaud Senator Voinovich for his leadership in introducing the Federal Workforce Performance Appraisal and Management Improvement Act, which will ensure federal civilian employees are held to the highest standards in the exercise of their daily duties, and enhance the overall quality of services provided by the federal government.

"The Office of Personnel Management believes an effective federal civilian workforce can be encouraged and fostered by ensuring pay is commensurate with performance rather than longevity. This legislation will help achieve this goal by requiring managers to receive the training necessary to make sound, objective judgments on employee performance, ensuring fairness."
