Washington, DC- The U.S. Office of Personnel Management (OPM) staff recently met with veterans at Marine Corps Air Station, New River, North Carolina to conduct training and information seminars on issues related to possible civilian employment within the federal workforce.

OPM staff presented three seminars, entitled "Maximizing the USAJOBS.gov website," "Effective Resume Writing and Interviewing Techniques," and "Veterans' Preference and Special Hiring Authorities."

Many Marines attended the workshops in order to gain better insight about transitioning from the military into federal civilian service. The majority of attendees were most interested in the details of Veterans' Preference rules and regulations.

Captain Stuart Fugler, Public Affairs Officer at New River commented "The OPM seminars educated our Marines on how to find more information at USAJOBS.gov, and maximize the resources on that web site, improve their resumes, hone interviewing skills, and most importantly, understand the ins and outs of Veterans' Preference and special hiring authorities. We would all like to thank the OPM staff for an outstanding presentation. We hope they will plan to come back soon."

The New River installation, located near Jacksonville, N.C., houses approximately six thousand Marines.

This visit by OPM staff to North Carolina exemplifies Phase II of the Veteran Invitational Program (VIP), an initiative to communicate Veterans' Preference rights on federal employment opportunities to veterans.
