Washington, D.C. -- The U.S. Office of Personnel Management (OPM) co-hosted its quarterly telework forum for Federal agency telework coordinators with the General Services Administration (GSA). At the forum, OPM officials highlighted current guidance and encouraged greater use of telework to better demonstrate results in the number of agency telework program participants. There were also detailed discussions about the release of the upcoming telework survey, new legislation and technology updates. The meeting also provided a forum to discuss critical elements needed to create a successful telework program.
"These types of forums are critically important as agencies look to further incorporate telework into their workforce planning efforts, as each agency has a responsibility to drive for the result of more participants in telework programs," OPM Director Kay Coles James commented after the meeting. "Telework plays a critical role in keeping the Federal government efficient while providing agencies greater flexibility to respond to emergency situations."
As lead agencies for the Federal teleworking initiative, OPM and GSA both had representatives available to answer questions and highlight program assessment tools.
"I commend the attending agencies for their efforts to make this tool available in the Federal workplace," James added. "Its benefits are invaluable. Telework also aids in easing traffic congestion and has benefits to the environment."
