OPM Awards Contracts to Five Companies to Perform Background Investigations for Federal Agency Security Clearance Programs

Washington, D.C.  --  The U.S. Office of Personnel Management today awarded contracts to five companies to perform background investigations on current and prospective federal employees, military personnel and contractors.

The five companies receiving the contracts, following a full and open competition, are:

  • CACI International Corp, Chantilly, Virginia
  • Kroll Government Services, Inc., New York, New York
  • OMNIPLEX World Services Corp, Chantilly, Virginia.
  • Systems Application & Technologies, Inc., Landover, Maryland
  • US Investigative Services, LLC, Annandale, Virginia

Each of the contracts includes a 15-month base that runs through September 30, 2007, with three performance-based one-year options.

OPM provides background investigations services for more than 100 federal agencies, the military and contractors working in partnership with government. Approximately 90 percent of all federal background investigations - ranging from sensitive to top secret - are provided by OPM. In fiscal year 2006, OPM expects to process 1.7 million new investigations requests.

In fiscal 2005, OPM completed 1.4 million investigations. The agency is on track to comply with timeliness requirements for completing the field-work component of investigations, as contained in the Intelligence Reform and Terrorism Prevention Act of 2004.
