Federal Recruitment Campaign Hits Waco Airwaves

Washington, D.C. - The U.S. Office of Personnel Management's new recruitment campaign highlighting the breadth of work opportunities available in the Federal government will begin running in the Waco/College Station, Texas television market during the week of February 5, 2007. The local market is the 15th media market in the country selected as part of the new Federal recruiting initiative.

"This campaign is raising awareness about the exciting and rewarding careers people can find in the Federal government," said U.S. Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Director Linda Springer. "The media effort also draws attention to the Government's premier job web site, www.usajobs.gov. Updated daily, the site allows applicants to view and apply for available jobs." Springer pointed out there are currently more than 20,000 job openings throughout the Federal Government.

The OPM Director also noted the campaign is part of a broader effort in advance of what she has called the coming "Federal retirement wave." OPM estimates 60% of the Federal government's 1.8 million member workforce will be eligible to retire over the next 10 years, and 40% will likely retire. "OPM is committed to ensuring the Federal government has an effective civilian workforce so the vital services provided to the American people will continue in the years ahead," she stated. "This campaign is doing just that, by showcasing the positive things once can accomplish by working for the Federal government, which works for the American people."

The ad campaign features real employees from a wide range of professions and Federal agencies. For more information on the ad campaign and job opportunities available in the Federal government, visit www.usajobs.gov/impact.
